Thorny Star
We find these colorful starfish on grass flats in the Keys. The largest one we've seen measured about 8" from tip of leg to tip of leg. They are reef safe and remain pretty active. They add color and character to any marine aquarium. We have determined them to be reef safe based on their natural habitat. These stars are not found in areas containing corals or polyps of any kind. These stars are collected on sandy/rocky grass flats. They are likely detrivores. We have received a report that although they are basically reef safe they have nibbled on a particular small polyp stony coral.

$8.99/each

Serpent Stars
Most likely the hardiest and most useful of all sea stars. These Serpent Stars are outstanding scavengers. They are very reef safe and easy to care for. Expect them to live for years. They are a scavenger that feeds on fish feces, dead organisms, and uneaten food.

$4.75/each

Banded Serpent Star

These serpents have distinct black bands around their legs. These stars come from Bali. They Have the same description as the serpents listed above. You may want to take caution using these stars in tanks with small or slow moving fish. These stars will eat just about anything they catch!

Sand Sifting Stars
These are really neat starfish. They will stay buried just beneath the sand. They are great for keeping the top layers of your sand bed clean and aerated. They work like giant nassarius vibex snails. If you are having a problem with cyanobacteria or diatoms on your sand bed, consider adding one or two of these guys to your tank. These stars are about three to four inches across.

ONLY $12.55 ea.

Micro Stars
These little guys are very good detritous feeders. They will hide in crevices in rocks or bury slightly beneath the sand by day, and venture out by night to forage. They have been known to reproduce easily in aquariums. They will definitely eat stuff where nothing else can get to. Another GREAT price from FloridaPets!

We're growing some more! They should be available by mid April.

.99/ea.

Sm. Rock Boring Urchins
These little urchins are wonderful algae eaters. They are also a great live treat for many Triggers. These urchins may not be recommended for acrylic tanks or if you have coralline algae growth. They have very strong mouth parts and may scratch acrylic tanks and they will eat coralline algae as well.

$4.99/ea.

Add Sm. Rock Boring Urchins to your cart!

Long Spine Urchin

These are very cool urchins. The long spines make them very attractive and fragile looking. They have much of the same characteristics of the short spine and pincushion urchins. The Long spine urchins are more commonly found around the reefs and deeper water than the Rock boring and pincushion.

$9.99/ea.

Pincushion Urchin

We have collected a number of these interesting critters. These urchins do not seem very interested in eating coralline algae. I have placed some in an aquarium to help control coralline algae growing on the glass and they did not touch it. They will camouflage themselves with small shells or pieces of macro algae. We have some the size of tennis balls at this time. We also have some that are white and some that are brown and rose colored.

$7.99

Knobby Stars

These stars are NOT reef safe. They make great additions to fish only aquariums. They eat detritus and will help keep your substrate clean. They are about 5 inches accross and are very beautiful. Do not add to aquariums with triggers as they may become a snack. These stars are also a favorite food for Harlequin shrimp as well.
